Book of the Month: Son of Hamas

Summary:

In this autobiography, Mosab Hassan Yousef details his life as the eldest child of Sheikh Hassan Yousef, one of the founding members of the terrorist group, Hamas. Prepare to be gripped as you read about Mosab's precarious childhood in a war-torn area, his teen years spent harassing Israeli soldiers and avoiding their bullets, his capture and imprisonment when only 18, and his eventual collaboration with the very Israelis he passionately hated. Even more incredible is Mosab's journey to knowing and accepting Jesus Christ, despite the resulting consequences.

Pro's:

This book was given to me by the pastor at our church. I took it home and began reading that very afternoon. I couldn't put it down. The book was finished in a few hours. Mosab recounts numerous times when death was, quite literally, at his doorstep. His description of his work with the Shin Bet as a spy is one of the most fascinating real-life spy accounts I've read. Mosab's insight into Islam and the Israeli-Pakistani conflict is especially enlightening. What I find most remarkable is how this former terrorist turned spy came to be a Christian. It's a story you'll want to read!

Con's:

Obviously with a book like this there will be some violence. However, I was pleased with how the author carefully handled the violent aspects of the account without detracting from the actuality of what occurred. But do preview the book before recommending it to younger, more sensitive readers.

My rating for this book is:

4 1/2 out of 5 stars (I loved this book and would recommend it to mature audiences due to some violence)

  3. Sounds like an interesting one! Thanks for the review. He must have been a real target after getting saved and leaving the terrorists. I know that sometimes even normal Muslims are persecuted when they leave the faith and convert to Christianity.

    1. They definitely wanted to kill him after he converted. I don't want to spoil too much of the book but I will say he is currently residing in the US.
